Neutron-based techniques for archaeometry: characterization of a Sardinian boat model

Abstract Sardinian metallurgy produced samples of high artistic and historical value. In particular, ship models are rare unmatched examples the mastery reached by metallurgists their production process deserves an in-depth analysis all phases involved in making. this work, we examined a boat model to obtain information about its composition, microstructure manufacturing technique. The object is small bronze that was found near Nuraghe Colovros, located north-east Sardinia (Italy). It analysed means neutron imaging diffraction experiments at ISIS Pulsed Neutron Muon Source laboratory (Harwell, UK). techniques relatively new field archaeometry, but they very effective tool for study archaeological objects: permit survey complete artefacts, determine compositions structures, assess conservation status address questions use casting techniques.
